Networking In Person Isn't Enough
by Andy Drish, Des Moines
Do you have a blog yet? If not, you should. Networking in person is great but it’s very inefficient.

Connecting with people online gives you a whole new reach. It allows you to have friends all over the world that will be there when you need some help.

David Armano is one of my favorite marketing bloggers. Last January, his friend Daniela was in a very rough spot. She had just divorced her husband that abused her and her home had been foreclosed on. Daniela and her three children had nowhere to go and no one to turn to. David blogged about her predicament and, in less than 24 hours, he had raised over $12,000.

Katie Konrath is another friend of mine I met through blogging. Last October her friend (a troop in Iraq) raised a puppy during the 15 months she was held there due to a stop-loss policy. When she tried to send the dog home through the organization Baghdad Pups, her commanding officer seized the dog. Katie blogged about the situation. In less than three weeks, her post had over 7000 Diggs. She had a petition with signatures from over 70,000 people all of the U.S. and in nearly 50 other countries. And, best of all, the dog was safely sent home.

Those stories are possible because Katie and David devote so much time to building their brands online. They wouldn’t have happen if Katie and David focused only on meeting people in person.
