| It's Time To Go Back When... |

As I write this, I am in my fifth week of an eight-week maternity leave. This is the third one of these leaves I have taken in my 10-year career. Each time, I hit a wall around the sixth week. This time around, it seems to be coming a bit sooner.
You know it’s time to go back when your Facebook updates bore even you; or when you find yourself bragging up your work accomplishments instead of your newborn baby.
Hey, it happens.
Even though I work in a home office, there’s still the freedom to leave whenever I want while I’m working. If I want to meet a colleague for lunch, run an errand or drop off a package to the post office, I can. And it doesn’t take 30 minutes of packing a diaper bag and a baby.
Maternity leave definitely solidifies my choice to be a working mom. If ever I start to feel like reconsidering my decision, all I have to do is think back on maternity leave.
Sure, there’s a risk of getting sucked into the memory of holding my baby tight while she falls asleep; or cuddling her while I catch up on TiVo; or showing her off to the visitors who come with gifts and dinner in tow.
But it’s a risk I’m willing to take because more likely than not, I’ll remember the inability to shower all day, the dreary absence of adult conversation and the guilt over asking your husband to change a 4 a.m. diaper because he has to get to the office in three hours.
I’ll remember that, and work will sound like a vacation.
